The Top 7 Mistakes Newbies Make While Building Their Online Empires

The internet began in the 1980s and became mainstream by the 1990s when the likes of Yahoo!, Amazon, eBay, and Google jumpstarted their empires. By the middle of the 2000s when YouTube, Facebook, and Twitter opened their doors for the masses to jump in, the world had become a huge flattened global village. Today we are the citizens of the world. George Orwell's nineteen eighty-four, first written in 1949, is here but unlike the dire prediction of 1984, the internet has democratized communication and commerce and nothing can stop its onward march.
While it took many global brands hundreds of years to acquire the status MNC (Multi-National Corporation) the internet is producing globe-spanning companies and billionaires at a rate and speed never seen or heard in history. While before the internet boom, there was only one documented employee who later became a billionaire, in the person of the late Roberto Goizueta, the former Chairman & Chief Executive Officer of one of the global brands, the likes of Steve Ballmer, Tim Cook, and Meg Whitman, to mention three, became billionaires while directors and employees of Microsoft, Apple, and eBay respectively.

Needless saying the founders of the global e-commerce giants like Jeff Bezos, Larry Page, Sergey Brin, Jack Ma, Mark Zuckerberg, Jack Dorsey, to mention the topmost echelons are billionaires many times over. By 2018, Jeff Bezos had become not only the richest man in the world but the richest in all of modern history, with his net worth topping $104billion, barely 23 years after founding Amazon.
From publicly available information, the top 5% to 10% of employees in most of the global internet giants like Amazon, Google, Facebook, Ali Baba is multiple millionaires. The internet, of course, has also aided other global giants like Berkshire Hathaway, Apple, Microsoft, HP, and GE, to explode further also making a bigger percentage of their employee's millionaires like never before.
While you needed millions in capital and thousands of employees pre-internet to scale your business operations to make it to the big league, today you can become a millionaire with just your laptop and internet connectivity. Indeed, today the extent and how fast you can grow to millionaire status is limited only by your imagination.
To show how imagination triumphs online, let's take the founder of CD Baby, Derek Sivers, as an extreme example. An introvert, looking for a cure he joined a circus and became a clown; perfected his guitar playing skills; started producing songs; and became a musician and an artist. Long story short, he produced a music CD, which shops around his neighborhood would not stock. To solve his problem, he set up a website, CD Baby, in 1998 and started selling his music there and also invited other musicians to join. Just ten years later, he sold CD Baby for $22million in 2008.
Expectedly Americans, people from Western Europe, Australia, New Zealand, and Israel dominate the internet but anybody from any part of the globe can jump in. As someone who has studied the internet phenomenon for a while, these are the top seven mistakes that newbies to the internet make from my own opinion. Read and learn how to zigzag your way to internet success.
1. Hanging out solely with the internet 'gurus': Beware of gurus. They are in a class of their own. While the majority of them have made a further fortune online, the majority of the more familiar names made theirs before the advent of the internet. Why follow the gurus when you're not in the same league with them? It's like learning to run 100 meters dash and heading to the Olympic to compete with the likes of Usain Bolt, Florence Griffith-Joyner and Magic "Bullet" Johnson, and the like. You'll only end up in frustration. The solution, look for someone who is three to five steps ahead of you and learn from her.
2. Trying to do many things at the same time: Doing this is going to be your fastest road to failure because you're going to be a jack of all trades and master of none. Do you want to set up e-commerce, a market place, membership website, or do you want to learn HTML, how to code, develop software, or do you want to learn search engine optimization, develop e-products, or apps? Decide and focus single-mindedly until you prevail in one area before you jump to another.
3. Not putting in enough effort: It's easy to be misled into thinking that making millions is a walk through the park and anybody can do it. Thanks to motivational speakers, you're made to believe anything you can visualize and believe in, you can achieve. Beware, if it were that easy, we'd all be millionaires. True, it's easier to succeed online than offline because of the ease with which you can scale, however, you still need to burn the proverbial midnight oil, put in the hours, toil and sweat, but insufficient capital investment and learning before you start seeing the needle moving in your favor.
4. Lacking Skills or relying on shallow skills: When people read books and watch YouTube videos with headlines such as, How I Made My First $1million Online, How I Sold 1million eBooks Online and Set It All Up And Go Have Fun And See The Millions Roll-In, they take in what they hear hook, nail, and sinker." Again if it were that easy everybody would be a millionaire. As Tony Robbins consistently says, "It's not what you know it's what you consistently do" that matters. Though thousands are making it online, the technology for spectacular success is quite formidable and beyond the grasp of the majority of people. So be prepared to learn new skills like making videos, writing copies, scripting, podcasting, webcasting, doing webinars and so on. Though you can outsource things that are beyond you, you still need to know who you can outsource to and even what to outsource.
5. Not developing online assets early enough: Online assets such as websites, blogs, YouTube channels, vlogs, e-products, to mention a few, enable you to scale fast and monetize early. The mistake most newbies do is to wait until they are perfect. You don't need to be perfect to get your first website up and running. Sometimes newbies think the website is about beauty. It's not. It's about functionality. Though aesthetics has its place, what is paramount is functionality. Can people interact easily with you and your website or blog? Without online assets it's difficult for people to know you, meet you and enter into dialogue with you. So tomorrow get someone to design a website for you. If you have nothing to put there, just put your picture and say hello, my name is Internet Newbie. You may say I'm on Facebook; just know they serve different purposes.
6. Not Getting A Coach Early Enough: Derek Bok, the former president of Harvard, has the following quote attributed to him, "If you think education is expensive, try ignorance." The biggest mistake you will make while trying to carve out a piece of the internet cake for yourself is to go it alone. You can, but beware, you may spend years trying to figure things out what to do while what you already knew or was in vogue is already obsolete. Sure, you can learn literally anything through Google and YouTube, smart newbies get coaches and mentors to show them the way around the web. Some newbies think they cannot afford a coach or coaches because they erroneously believe coaches are for elite tennis players like Serena Williams, elite boxers like Floyd Mayweather, and elite golfers like Tiger Woods. Nothing can be further from the truth. Anybody can afford a coach. It all depends on where you're looking. Go out and look for a coach and you would have surmounted all the other mistakes in one fell swoop.
7. Lacking Mental Toughness: This is the toughness mistake to overcome. Newbies who lack mental toughness get easily discouraged and give up too soon. If you've not read the book, Acres of Diamond, borrow a copy from your local library and devour. Mental toughness means believing in your vision, mission, and goal. It's noteworthy to say that Amazon lost money for 58 quarters (about 14 years) before it became stupendously profitable. If you lack all the other ingredients but develop mental toughness, you will prevail.
I have arranged these mistakes in the order, with the ones easy to discontinue or discard at the top and the more difficult ones at the bottom. Mindset cuts across all the other mistakes. Take care of your mindset and your mindset will take care of the other mistakes. Do not just believe in your vision, start doing, start implementing, start executing, start getting your hands dirty! You don't' need more knowledge. What you need is the full belief in yourself, believe in what you already know, and an effective coach to show you the tweaks, bends and turns of the internet and before long you would have carved out a piece of the internet cake for yourself and loved ones.

Building a B2B Content Strategy

If you own a Business-to-Business company, which means that you either sell products and/or services to other companies, your online content strategy will be different than if you own a different sort of business. Undoubtedly, all businesses need to generate content.
The types of content that you will be generating
A great percentage of the content that you will be generating for your B2B online is general and covers a wide variety of topics. However, you will also have occasion to delve into areas of discussion that are more specific and focus on more details in a particular niche. One thing that is for certain is that the content that you share with other professional people online will enable your target audience to improve their business's content strategy, which will positively affect their online presence. Whatever your content says, it must be valuable, compelling, educational, and it must, in some way, solve the problems of the person who is taking the time to read it. As you are considering exactly how to structure your online content strategy for your business, you should consider the following questions:
What makes a particular content strategy work? The first thing that you have to do before you can answer this question is to define exactly what a content strategy is. Content marking is the connection between brand awareness and lead generation. Many people use the term but a large number of people don't actually understand what it means. They just understand that it is a good term to use. A content strategy is an approach (using content) that outlines the type of content that you should create in order to reach (and effect) the specific target audience that you wish to reach. When you are establishing your content strategy, a part of what you will be deciding is exactly which form your content will take (blog articles, newsletters, white papers, etc). Another important part of the strategy is your choice of topics. There will definitely be a large number of topics from which to choose and you may need to get creative about how you present those topics for the most bang. The last thing that you will need to decide is exactly how and to whom you will distribute your content. Of course, you will want to write and share your content in a manner that ranks it the highest on the search engines so that your readers can find you easily.
Which are the important questions to pose about your B2B strategy? As you are formulating your strategy, you will need to ask yourself several relevant questions, which will help you to come up with the most effective content strategy possible for your particular business. The first issue is to identify who your customers are and what they will need from you and your business. If you are able to identify your actual customers, you will be able to also figure out exactly which social media channels will work best in order to reach those particular people. Then, you will be able to customize your content to suit your target audience's needs. As you are writing the content, you will need to identify the needs of your target audience so that you can offer solutions to their problems through your content. If you are able to do that, you will most likely create loyal, enduring customers. Another issue that you will need to determine is the most effective manner by which to highlight your offerings through your content. Is it most effective to use the printed word, videos, a combination of the two? Only you can decide. Another issue is how you are planning to promote your content. It is a good idea to put yourself in the other person's shoes. If you find that you are engaged by your content, your target audience will also be engaged by your content. The final question is a very important one. What do you have to communicate in your content to cause your business's revenue to increase? Again, only you can answer that one.
What are the kinds of content that you should consider for your particular business? As you are well aware, there are many different types of content that you may consider writing and sharing. The decision that you make about the type of content will affect everything else that occurs after that. Whichever type of content you decide to write, it is very important to bear in mind that you should never include a "hard sell" and your content must benefit the person who is seeking answers from you. The possible types of content are:
Content that generates leads: With this type of content, your main objective is to bring more business to you through leads. Your content should entice your prospective clients and current clients. It should generate a great deal of buzz.
Blog content: A blog is an extremely effective type of content in many cases. A blog allows your audience to get to know you as a person. It is important to make sure that your blog content is informative and touches the readers on a personal level. You must tell a story through your blog.
Guest blogs: It is an excellent idea to use guest bloggers. You certainly should not use them more often than you write and post content; however, it is important to keep your content interesting and varied and that is a great way to do it. The topics of your collective blogs (yours and those of guest bloggers) will undoubtedly be interesting and compelling.
Newsletters: Newsletter content is very different than other types of content. Often, a newsletter is worth leveraging. People often enjoy reading your newsletter and you aren't overdoing it because it will be sent to them with far less frequency than other types of content. You can increase your distribution list for the newsletter over time. On the downside; however, be prepared that some people may choose to opt-out at some point.
Conclusion
Your online content strategy is bound to help your business in most ways. It will help you to develop and maintain relationships and it will help you to build increased exposure and it will boost your professional reputation. All of those are extremely important for the success of your business. Your content marketing strategy is critical to the effectiveness of your business.

Why Membership Sites Are The Best Ways To Earn Online And How To Build Them?

For decades since internet marketing started, membership sites are perceived as goldmines of profiting massively in the quickest time possible. And the reason why is because you do the work once as an owner and get paid over and over again by people who are interested and want to continue learning from you. Or they like to use the resources and tools continuously since they needed them to run their own online business.
The question is despite knowing that membership sites are the best and fastest ways to earn, why do so many people procrastinate on having their own? The most common reasons I discovered are from their feedback in surveys are they are not technical. They have no idea how to build a website let alone membership. And moreover, it involves a lot of work and time which is true since you have to provide value in the form of content, tools, and resources to continue to those who wish to stay on as members. Even if there are free ones like Mark Ling's AffiloBlueprint, the same principles apply since most marketers not only want to make more sales but getting more leads as well. Because to them and myself as well, every subscriber is worth a dollar and every paying customer is worth two dollars and more depending on what they buy.
The way I see it, building memberships do not have to be that hard. You just have to sign up for courses on those, learn and implement and then you are good to go.Over the past 9 years since I began my internet marketing journey, I have invested into numerous membership courses. Besides AffiloBlueprint, I have access to Omar Martin's My Unfair Advantage, Adam Short's Niche Classroom and AmaSuite by Dave Guindon and Chris Guthrie. They all consisted of a set of 20-40 video tutorials, PDF manuals, and software applications and other resources.
Although there are many themes on building membership courses, the one I have and been using for the past 5 years is Optimize Press. Designed and founded by James Dyson from the UK, it is designed for building blogs, landing pages, sales pages, and membership sites. It is also the costliest but in terms of quality and customer support, they are among the best. Having learn and implemented what they teach in their video tutorials, I have build many landing pages, sales letters and membership sites in multiple niches. Besides internet marketing, I have other topics like health, personal development, and technology.
So with that said, how do you build a membership site?
It might surprise you if I tell you the answer.
Which is -
You don't start out building a membership site.
Instead, you began by finding a profitable niche.
As in forums and Facebook groups which you can search on related to what you are interested in or having problems but managed to overcome them.
Then what you need is to get connected to those groups of people as in introducing yourself and getting to know, build rapport and understand them as to how you normally make friends. Find out their interests, challenges, strengths, and weaknesses before compiling them into your notepad. And then from those, more or less you know what they are looking for.
I hear many people talking about finding, knowing and targeting your market first before starting any business. Which is true. And in internet business, those I mentioned above are those markets.
Then use those points you compiled them and write a series of articles on those. Then put them together into Microsoft Word or Open Office before saving them as PDF e-book.
Once I have done that, the next thing I will proceed is copying and pasting the content from those articles into powerpoint slides. At the same time, I will sign up for the 30 day trial of Camtasia Studio to do and produce video recordings simply by reading from and adding more stuff to those slides.
When it comes to videos, there are two ways you can go about it. The first is a straight 10-20 video series which will be best for low to middle-priced online courses. But if you are looking into high priced coaching programs, I will recommend 10-20 modules with each module covering a series of another 10-20 videos. The first module can be about niche and keyword research while the second and third touches on finding profitable affiliate programs and creating engaging content etc.
Once I got the PDF guide and videos done, I will add in other bonuses as resources. It can be interviews with other experts in the same niche, software tools, and additional PDF and video series.
When it comes to building the site itself, I will touch on building opt-in pages, sales offers and membership sites from Optimize Press. Instead of using posts, I will focus more on pages and do certain settings and add plugins to enhance the look and use of the membership site.
I will also add the menu on top to allow customers to find what they want quickly and easily. It will comprise of Home, Guides, Videos, Resources, Affiliates and Contact Us Page. Under Videos, there will be more pages with each dedicated to one video on one particular topic.
Finally, I will buy Wishlist Members to allow certain customers in with their username and password which they will receive via email and redirection after signing up from the registration page they will be directed to after securing their copy.
In terms of pricing, members can choose to pay monthly and yearly. They can also cancel anytime if they do not wish to continue as members.
Finally, I will invite them to join my Facebook community group in which they can interact with one another and even do Joint Venture business deals.

Why You Need To Build a Proper Email List To Make Money On The Internet

Making money on the internet requires a proven plan. One way many have procured money through the internet is by developing an email list. This list consists of persons that subscribe to receiving information about the products you are selling. These people are already interested in the information or product you are selling. Thus they subscribe to receiving further emails from you. This is important that they want to receive emails from you. They may never buy your information or product, but many of your subscribers will continue to show interest and eventually purchase your product. This requires an autoresponder. There are a number of companies that provide this type of technology.
They will often provide their service free of charge for the first month. This is to their benefit because if you like their service paying for this service becomes a possible course of action. These services will also help you to build your email list, with expert advice. Remember they want you to succeed because this is income down the road that they will receive from your continued relationship with them.
When selling something on the internet your product will have to be of value to your potential customers. One way to get potential customers interested in your product is to offer a free eBook. There are a number of places on the internet that will help you develop an eBook that will be of interest to potential customers. These will have to be targeted to people who need this advice. There are many people searching the internet for advice on a never-ending list of topics,. This could be advice about relationships or how to improve their dogs' behavior.
Developing an eBook will take some time. The proper process of making one involves creating a platform that people will be engaged with. Your eBook must help people solve issues that are personally involved with. You can often find information on the internet that will help you add content. However, it is best to be original and speak from your experiences and intelligence. When writing the information you want your audience and potential customers to review, be original. Remember your potential customers want honesty in the information you are providing them.
When it comes to the time when a possible sale is closed, the customer must trust the webpage that sale will take place on. There are a number of reputable affiliate marketing ventures that you can sign into which will provide ample security when it comes to various credit card transactions. Security is very important to you as the vendor, and every customer you interact with.
Best Regards

Learn How To Build A Business Plan And Create Your First Product For Your Online Business

Most Internet Marketers fail online because they do not know where their business is going or how they are going to get there (to whatever their endpoint goal is - usually making money online). Many newbie Internet Marketers may experience a little success at first, but eventually, they will fail. They will fail because they do not have or use a solid business plan in the development of their online business. Most people just starting out in Internet Marketing treat this business as a "hobby." It is something they do in their spare time.

Most of these online entrepreneurs run after the hype and eventually close down their online business. This is almost always due to the lack of sales. They thought it would be "easy" to get sales online. The ideas behind these websites were great, but the people who conceived the idea failed to see the potential of the business venture.
To build a solid online business you need to think like a business owner. You are only going to turn your creativity into money by using the resources that are available to you. Whenever you are faced with a challenge in your online business, you should devote time to plan and analyze a strategy to overcome the challenge and succeed. 90% of the people who are investing in business ventures do not do this - and it leads to their failure!
One way I found that will help you plan the content for your website is by using what is called a "10x10 matrix."
10x10 matrix
Open up a new excel file and brainstorm 10 things that you are passionate about. Write these 10 things in the first row - going across the top. These things would be the ones you would do for free and enjoy doing it. Your day job may be that of an office manager but you love vintage cars. Over the years you have learned a lot about vintage cars through magazines, videos, and real-life experiences. People come to you and ask for your advice on the subject of vintage cars. You really know a lot about vintage cars and you could talk nonstop for hours if provided the opportunity. You may know how to buy vintage cars and you are able to advise others on what vintage cars to choose that will suit their style.
Or you may be an avid golfer. If that is the case, then you need to write down 10 things that you can teach others on how to improve their golf game under the cell "golf."
These things should be short like "warming up"; "driving range" (start with the wedge and move backward to the driver, with 10 shots each); there is the "sand bunker practice"; there is "chipping", there is "putting"; there is staying cool in hot environments, etc.
Write 10 things UNDER each main subject you wrote in the cells on the first row at the top. Some categories may not have 10 things you can think of and some may have more than 10.
Now that you have brainstormed a lot of potential topics, you need to see if these topics are being used in search engines on the Internet. You do not want to create content that no one reads about!
You can use Google keyword planner to see the list of related keywords in your niche. You can also see the amount the advertisers are paying for a particular keyword.
If you are creating a blog with the articles related to the keywords, you can use Ad-sense ads in your articles. This will allow you the possibility to make money from each blog post! You will need to build a website to do that (and that requires a small financial investment as well).
Use each sub-category to write an article and post that article to your blog site. Combine all of the sub-categories that you have turned into articles into an e-book that you can offer for sale or use it in a Give Away to build your email list. The possibilities are endless!
If you are not good at writing articles but you enjoy creating videos - use video blogging! You can create a YouTube channel and upload your videos to this channel. You can directly monetize your videos on YouTube. Once you have sufficient subscribers, you can ask for donations or provide premium content for a fee on your channel.
If you like to write articles then you can create an e-Book containing premium content and sell it on your website. I would recommend you use a merchant account from Click-Bank. Click-Bank is an online retail outlet that showcases over 10,000 digital products from vendors around the globe. More than 100,000 active affiliates promote the products of the vendors for commissions.
It is possible that you could receive a lot of sales within a short span of time. To do this, you need to encourage your affiliates to promote your product by providing them various promotional materials that they can use that are related to your product.
Remember to make your business scalable because you will get a lot of customers who are willing to buy more products from you in the future. So you will be building your list while making money! The best of both worlds!
You can even create Joint Ventures with some of the other marketers and make even more money selling your products in the future. Joint Ventures take many forms, such as Give Away events or just emailing a promotion from your JV partner to your list and they mail their list about your product.
You should always create a business plan based on facts and figures. You need to track and modify your campaigns continuously to stay ahead in this very fluid and very competitive business. Do not treat this as a hobby or you will only have a hobby. You can only have a business if you treat this "as a business."
You can receive additional information from my blog located at http://www.bobthibodeau.com I post several articles there each month that will help you to establish and grow your Internet business quickly (and cheaply)! Although I cannot guarantee you I have the answers to all of your problems, I have been "around the block" a few times and probably have experienced what you are going through. Come over to my blog and look around, leave a comment or ask a question.

Build an Email Marketing System You Can Be Proud Of

I know a lot of you are curious about email marketing. What it is, how to do it, does it still work in 2019. I figured instead of my little articles, I'd put together a more complete resource answering all your questions.
This article will focus on what it is and why you want to do it.
What is Email Marketing?
Email marketing is using simple, plain old emails to sell your products and services. It can be as simple as emailing people about your offer, or a complex, multilayered, finely tuned system. For now, let's keep it simple.
Let's say you have an offer. How do you use email to get it to people who might want it?
You could send unsolicited emails to people. It's tricky - people don't like being spammed - but it can work.
Or you could get people to come to you. On your website, ask people to sign up for your email list. You can then send them emails about your offer.
Both have pros and cons.
And both need to be done well - otherwise, you'll be spinning your wheels and getting nowhere.
But that's okay. After all, that's why you're here.
Does Email Marketing still work in 2019?
Short answer: yes.
Longer answer:
Plenty of people will tell you email is dead. They'll say Facebook killed it off or whatever. They've been saying stuff like that for decades, though, and the stats don't back them. Despite all these new platforms, email is not only surviving, but it's also thriving.
There are more than 3.8 billion email users today. By 2022, this is expected to grow to 4.3 billion. That's a tasty market - bigger than any social media platform.
Email volume also trends upwards. In 2017, 269 billion emails were sent a day. By 2022, that's expected to reach 333 billion. So, yes, people are still emailing each other.
But most importantly:
The return on investment for email marketing is rising, too. In 2018, every dollar spent on email marketing yielded $32.28, an increase of $2.25 over the year before. Not only does it pay off, but that payoff is also increasing.
But why?
The Secrets behind Email's rise
An email has many advantages over social media:
It's personal. On Facebook and Twitter, you're bombarded with ads you don't want. With email, any ad you don't want probably heads straight for your spam box. You control your inbox and who can send messages to it, something social media tends to lack.
Your email list is yours. Social media can shut you down without notice. Think that only happens to racists? Think again - enough outrage (real or manufactured) against you will see these platforms shrug and abandon you. If that happened, you'd have to start over. But with email, even if you're banned (which is highly unlikely) you could take your list to another provider.
It's useful. Sure, we probably receive too many emails these days. It still remains one of the best ways to stay informed and stay in touch.
