Therefore, it is wise to adopt the scope of this medium and make the most out of it to generate more revenue in your business.
Many eCommerce web design companies are adopting the various strategies of social media marketing so that the customers do not miss out on the possibility of getting new customers or develop business relationships online.

Let your business leverage from endless options. There are only a few things that promise plenty of choices and social media is one of them. There is no limitation of channels such as Twitter, Facebook, YouTube, etc. that you can use to provide benefit to your business. Your eCommerce web design must choose the right channel so that your business can reach out to maximum possible prospects.
If you want to feel the pulse of your customers, then social media is the best platform. You cannot reach out to all your potential customers in person and get any feedback or knowledge that can provide a benefit to your business. However, on the social networks, you can run simple surveys to the customer in the form of polling or anything else. This will help you to get a big response and you can utilize the knowledge for the benefit of your business.
On social networks, you can regularly check the health of online marketing in your field. It means you can keep track of the news announcements, posting of new jobs, competitor keyword rankings, review of backlinks, etc. It helps you to maintain a competitive advantage as you can monitor the trend that your competitors are following. Some of the important aspects that you can follow are:
1 The type of content that competitors are publishing on social media.
2 Sites on which they are active.
3 The number of views, fans, and followers.
4 Way of promoting events, programs, and products.

The Entrepreneur's Beginner's Guide to Hashtags
How a Few Words Can Increase Social Media Engagement
I'm sure you've noticed there's no shortage of social media techniques and tips out there!
But have you also noticed the majority of those tips focus on general info, like how to get more followers or likes, or how to post compelling content to engage your users?
Those resources are important, but I notice that sometimes hashtags get forgotten about.
They're rarely mentioned in marketing articles, but they're such a great tool for building your brand, raising awareness around marketing campaigns and engaging/entertaining your audience.
How Do Hashtags Work?
If you're new to social media, I know it can seem overwhelming.
You may have seen these words with the # in front of them on social media platforms like Twitter, Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, and Pinterest. (The hashtag actually got its start in 2007, when Twitter began using it to index keywords to make them more searchable.)
But what are these words supposed to do? Should you use them? Why are they seemingly random?
I've put together this guide to help you understand how to use hashtags (and what the heck they are!) so you can increase social media engagement and leads.
Think of hashtags as a way to categorize your content.
Ultimately, they help people find and share posts on a specific topic.
When you create your social media post, you take a word or words and put the pound sign (#) in front of it. If you use two words, don't put a space between them. Now, the phrase is clickable and searchable on the social media platform the user is on.
Choosing the Right Hashtags
When done correctly, these tags can help you gain more exposure for your business and increase social media engagement. But like any social media strategy, you have to do your research and think before you post.
I'll make this process easier for you. Here are 7 ways to start choosing the right hashtags:
1. Create them for events.
This is one of the best ways to increase excitement and engagement on your social media accounts. For example, the Cornucopia wine festival in Whistler shared many posts on their Twitter and Instagram accounts with the hashtag #Cornucopia2019, and so did their followers and attendees.
2. Tag famous people or big brands.
Take a look at what's trending on Twitter, and try and incorporate it into your posts; but only if it's relevant. People are going to know if you're trying to force it or be fake.
Some examples are big sporting events, record releases by musicians, holidays and popular books. If someone who's famous in your industry makes the news, you could use that tag in one of your posts.
3. Do your research.
Whether you are doing research on the latest news for an upcoming Canadian Federal election or hockey playoffs, you could do a hashtag search to find several posts on the subject.
Searching tags on social media platforms can be a perfect way to find new ideas and spy on your competition.
A great resource for searching popular hashtags is https://hashtagify.me/hashtag/tbt
4. Encourage sharing.
The more people who share your hashtag and use it in their posts, the more exposure, engagement and traffic you're going to get.
You may remember the campaign #ShareACoke campaign. The company swapped out its iconic logo on 20-ounce bottles, replacing it with 250 of the most popular American names.
It was one of their most successful campaigns, leading to a 2% increase in soft-drink sales and lots of social media engagement as followers shared cans and bottles with their names on them.
5. Turn one tag into a campaign.
Many users "monitor" certain words, so focusing on one consistently can help you gain a following.
For instance, you could come up with a campaign with several posts around a specific product you offer, or a holiday promotion you're doing.
6. Find some weekly post themes.
This is a simple way to tie in a trending tag with your business.
Some common themes include #throwbackthursday, where people post anything from past vacation pics to high school graduation photos; and #wisdomwednesday, where they share their advice on all sorts of topics.
I use #MotivationMonday and #TuesdayTip on our Twitter, Facebook and Instagram channels and often mix in other popular hashtags for optimal exposure.
7. Use humor.
People love to share funny stuff with others, whether it's a trending meme or a relatable story. Here's a hashtag late-night talk show host Jimmy Fallon came up with to get people to share: #MyWorstCostume.
By understanding which hashtags will resonate with your target audience, you can tap into a whole world of people looking for exactly what you're offering. So start brainstorming and researching how to add some fun and functional tags to your next post!

Don't Be Scared To Pay For Ads On Social Media
When you're using social media marketing to get the word out about your business, it's important to understand that using organic methods is the long haul.
But, there are ways to speed up the process. Sometimes the best way to get your word out is to pay for it. Paying doesn't mean you're succumbing; it means that you're smart. It's important not to be afraid of paying for ads because it's a fast way to get more reach and make more conversions if you have the right content.
To run ads the right way, you need to be clear on a few options first. These include:
Learn the Platform
Before you post any ads, it's imperative that you understand how to use the platform properly for placing your advertisement and targeting your audience. Using it right will make a huge difference. Using it the wrong way will waste your money.
Hire Someone
If you don't know how to run an advertisement profitably, you may want to consider hiring an expert. Choose someone with a track record of success. If they do their job properly it should not cost you anything as their fee will be a small percentage of the extra profits you generate from your ads.
Know Your Target Audience
If you don't know who your target audience is, it's too soon for you to try to run paid ads. Fully understand exactly who your ideal customer is before you get started.
Ensure Your Content Is Perfected
Before running ads, you want to ensure that your content is otherwise perfected. Although you can run tests and continue to run tests even with imperfect content, try to get it close to perfect before using it for an advertisement.
Spend the Right Amount
You need an understanding of how much money you should spend on any given advertisement. Some platforms like Facebook are good at making suggestions. Start with a small budget and then scale up as you start to get the response you want.
Watch the Data
Once you do place an advertisement, you want to monitor the data to ensure that what you're doing is working. That way you can tweak it as you go.
It's important not to be afraid of paying for advertisements. It can make a huge difference in how fast you expand your reach and start making a profit, getting more email sign-ups, and building your audience.
The majority of business owners who use social media to advertise their business claim Facebook is the best, most productive advertising service on all social media networks. The good news is that you can run a Facebook ad campaign for as little as $5.

Where Social Media Is Headed in 2020
Social Media Trends to Watch
A social media marketing strategy is on the minds of many small business owners. And if it's not on yours, it should be!
The major platforms like Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn and Instagram battle for market shares by adjusting their business models to balance providing better returns for shareholders with improving the user experience.
As these platforms develop, how you use them for your small business must change too.
Let's look forward to some ways to promote your business on social media in 2020.
Facebook
More than 18 months later, the Federal Trade Commission has officially ruled that Cambridge Analytica deceived Facebook users. The company had harvested the personal data of millions of Facebook profiles without people's consent and then used it for political advertising purposes.
While Cambridge Analytica went bankrupt soon after the scandal, Facebook is still working hard to tighten up its data access processes and convince people to trust in its new dedicated news platform.
Facebook rolled out Facebook News to a subset of people in the US. That means that while you'll still see posts from family and friends in your main feed, Facebook News will post content from a team of journalists (employed by Facebook).
This year, the company is also focusing on cryptocurrency and establishing its Facebook Pay feature. This could mean that your small business could soon incorporate on-platform selling into your account.
While the Facebook Watch launch didn't go as expected (only 140 million people daily are watching the videos and shows, which sounds huge, but isn't compared to the platform's 1.6 billion daily actives overall). Still, it looks like Facebook is going to make another attempt in 2020, so let's see what that means for video marketing.
What do these changes mean for your social media marketing strategy?
We'll have to wait and see. The more proprietary content the company creates, the more marketers may be competing to stay visible.
Twitter
The company recently announced it would stop running political ads, and is updating its global privacy policy to give users more information about what data advertisers might receive.
We're also wondering what the company's vice president of design and research, Dantley Davis, meant by his recent announcement around a series of changes that might come to the platform as early as next year.
How will this affect how you promote your business on social media?
You could have the ability to limit who retweets your tweet (which I can't see being a featured entrepreneur would use much, we love our retweets!), and the ability to tweet something to a specific group based on their interests.
Learn more about how to use Twitter hashtags.
LinkedIn
Since launching in 2003, LinkedIn has become the world's largest professional networking platform.
Microsoft acquired the platform for $26.2 billion in 2016, and with access to Microsoft's resources, we've seen updated professional insights and more targeted ads.
We've also seen LinkedIn groups make a comeback.
A LinkedIn group lets your business create a discussion board related to your industry. This provides you with the opportunity to start a special interest group of like-minded people that's specific to your product, service and/or expertise.
Groups also provide excellent visibility for your business, since each member who's a part of your group will have your logo showing in their profile. Group owners also now have the ability to post different types of media like images and videos, and immediate notifications enable real-time conversations.
Executive Suite has over 300,000 members, and brings together executives with a web series, practical advice and discussion boards.
What do LinkedIn Groups mean for your small business?
Hopefully, a better way to foster a sense of community, find candidates for open positions and gain brand visibility to name a few.
Instagram
You may remember Instagram testing the removal of likes in several countries, including Australia, Japan, Italy, and Ireland. Likes aren't gone-in the US and Canada you can still view the like count on your own photos and videos-just not posts from others.
So where did this come from? Instagram, which is owned by Facebook, has long dealt with people using hacks and workarounds. These come mostly from bots and unscrupulous businesses that manipulate the app to make themselves or other users appear more popular than they actually are. So, this is an attempt to make Instagram more authentic.
Instagram says "We hope this test will remove the pressure of how many likes a post will receive, so you can focus on sharing the things you love."
While many entrepreneurs and small businesses are good with this, influencers and video marketing agencies aren't.
How can they show businesses how popular they are? How will they demonstrate engagement?
But for the average small business owner who isn't buying likes or gaming the system with bots, this could be a good thing.
If your social media marketing strategy includes engaging content and you're happy to focus on comments and increased followers, you'll be fine.
While IGTV got off to a slow start, it's now considered one of the biggest social media trends out there. After Instagram announced earlier this year that Instagram would allow one-minute previews of IGTV videos on the main Instagram feed, users (and companies) started taking notice.
Unlike your other Instagram videos, IGTV videos can be 10-60 minutes long. This offers a great video marketing opportunity to do interviews, behind-the-scenes features and much more.
Since we can now add landscape-orientated videos as well, I've been adding my Business Edge Show videos that have been getting a lot of traction.
These are just a few of the changes you can expect to see across the major platforms this year. I'm sure there will be many more as the year goes by, as things are always changing!
To effectively promote your business on social media in 2020, it's essential to not only understand social media trends but to embrace them.
If you're finding it a challenge to stay on top of social media, consider hiring an agency that can create strategies that will be specific to your social media needs and goals so you can focus on building your business.

Why Content Needs to Be Human
Content marketing is a popular topic for B2B digital marketers today. It's not hard to see why; according to a Demand Gen report, 96% of B2B buyers report they want content with more input from industry leaders. While not every company has a documented content marketing strategy, many have begun implementing tactics like blogging, native advertising, and social media. Anyone with a computer and internet connection can produce content. And given the state of technology and automation, we may be quickly approaching an era where people may not have to produce content at all. Marketing automation will hit a whole new level.
But do we want to automate storytelling?
First Things First - What is Content Marketing
I've written several pieces that draw parallels between content marketing and storytelling, and I believe that to do the former well you have to be great at the latter. With all the definitions of what content marketing is (and isn't), let's look at what it really means. In most cases, we see content marketing defined as the strategy of providing valuable, educational (non-promotional) content to a defined audience with the intention of garnering interest in one's products/services.
Let's distill that down for the sake of this article...
Content marketing is providing great content.
So How Do We Provide Great Content?
Where does great content start? First, I like to point out what I consider to be some cornerstone principles to great content and content marketing:
Empathy - Selflessness bred with compassion that sows the seed from which great relationships bloom and grow
Honesty - Honesty about your product or brand's shortcomings make you appear relatable and trustworthy
Commitment - Open (and free) sharing - whether of information or personal stories or important data - draws people in and piques their attention.
Humility - Don't be a self-serving jerk
Great content has to be rooted in things that people can relate to. We've probably all seen content farm blogs that produce a keyword-rich jumble of paragraphs devoid of meaning. Great content is more than just catering to Google and Bing. It's people - not machines - who are going to take interest in what you have to say. While there are certainly best SEO practices to follow, stories resonate with people, not robots.
Great Content is Human
This article goes a little more in-depth into how each of those works as the foundation for a content marketing strategy. If we boil it down even further, I believe we arrive at this fact: great content (marketing) is founded in humanity.
If we look at the Merriam-Webster definition of "humanity" (ugh, definitions - I know, so cliche. Bear with me), the second entry defines humanity as:
A: The quality or state of being human joined together by their common humanity
B: humanities plural: human attributes or qualities
Why is this important? Because content should be based on commonalities - those attributes and qualities that make us the same. If great content marketing is really just great storytelling, this all makes sense.
Why is this important? Because content should be based on commonalities - those attributes and qualities that make us the same. If great content marketing is really just great storytelling, this all makes sense.
Think about the best stories you've heard - and the best storytellers you know - and hone in on the qualities that make them memorable. The stories that resonate most with us are the ones we can relate to on a personal level. We find a commonality in the tale being told and we hold onto it like a firefly on a warm summer's night. We put it in our jar (mind) and meditate on it, and while we may not hold onto it forever, it has left an impression.
Similarly, great storytellers find ways to connect with their audience. They spread eye contact with each and every person in their audience at just the right time. The compel intrigue with a raised eyebrow or magical gesture of the hand. They vary their tone and voice depending on where they are in the story - deepening the voice as the plot thickens and quickening pace near the peak of the conflict.
These seemingly minor nuances are actually the linchpins that forge a connection between the story, the storyteller and the audience.
Great storytellers draw upon their own experience - how they felt in a situation, the sounds they heard, the sensations they felt - and they help to recreate those experiences so that the audience can feel them, too. This ability to pull from our own experiences and to recreate those experiences for others is a truly human thing.
And so it is the same with content. Great content producers get into the skin of their audience and dig deep to understand what they are feeling (empathy), including pain points, challenges, frustrations, and motivations. They use those human qualities to create content that speaks to each in a relatable way.
Just as our hypothetical storyteller was able to shift tone and voice, so too can content marketers adjust based on where the content is being promoted, the audience to whom the content is being delivered, and the topics on which the content is created.
As this Forbes article points out, there are some other qualities and distinctions that separate good storytelling from great storytelling. The main points boil down to three key facts:
Your story is more interesting to you than it is to others.
Takeaway: Great content marketing is audience-centric. While you may use your own experience to build relatable stories, you'll want to be sure the overarching theme appeals to your core audience.
Great stories have conflicts and are told honestly.
Translation: Be human. In 2017, people want to cut to the chase. They have seen the same tired advertising from companies boasting "industry-leading feature X". Dig into your story further and use your "realness" to intrigue your audience. No company, product, or service is perfect, and companies shouldn't be afraid to shine a little (well-crafted) light onto the darker areas. Getting real with people can foster relationships built on trust.
Every great story has a resolution.
Translation: Give your audience the ending they need. If your content focuses on an industry pain point or challenge, provide the solution to that challenge. Remember, content marketing is meant to be educational, not self-promotional. While your product or service may be part of the solution, it's not always wise to focus on that alone. Paint a broad picture and allow your audience to come to their own conclusions.
With access to Big Data and marketing automation tools, it seems as though we have the ability to be hands-off when it comes to content creation and content marketing. With technology at our fingertips, it can be tempting to dive headfirst into that "set it and forget it" mentality and let robots step in and handle everything. But ask yourself how real human connections are built - online and offline - and honestly consider if mechanical content marketing is right for your company or brand... or it would be a mistake.
To err is human - and to create great stories is, too.

3 Tips for Social Media Storytelling
How to Build Better Engagement for Your Business
Stories predate television, the internet, and social media, but they're a big part of the modern marketing landscape. Social media is-or should be-a big part of your marketing strategy, no matter what line of business you're in.
Social media storytelling can increase reach and brand awareness and help you gain new followers. However, there is a great deal of noise out there.
If you don't attract attention, your message is going to be lost in a sea of other competing messages.
When we're attempting to connect and engage with our followers, customers and potential customers, it's essential to remember that we're not talking at people or simply posting products or services.
Think of this as a chance to narrate your brand, to start a conversation about who you are and what you offer.
Here are 3 tips to help bring storytelling into your social media marketing strategy:
Tip #1: Be Human
People are going to connect with people first, not brands. Share what's happening in your world with your followers, what you're learning and what's exciting you. Reinforce your brand's message, your mission and what you stand for.
Audiences are savvy, and they can tell when a brand isn't being authentic in their posts. Recently, we've been engaging our eVision audience with questions, and based on the response we're getting, it's a fun and genuine way to learn more about our followers while promoting our business.
That said, only share things that you want the whole world to know! Once you put something out there, it's out there for everyone to see-and snapshot and share-so make sure it's well-thought-out and appropriate.
Tip #2: Create Value
Your creative has to have intent, which isn't necessarily to make leads or sales. Think of ways to inform, entertain or surprise your audience.
Provide people with unique and interesting content, like blog posts, articles, infographics, videos or eBooks on platforms such as Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter and Instagram.
Offering resources is one of the top ways to attract attention and followers. Inviting your community to be part of your brand is an ideal way to get them engaged with your resources.
For example, if you're an accountant trying to increase your online presence and engagement, you could ask your followers to share their top reasons for hiring someone else to do their taxes.
Ask them to hashtag their responses with #taxhelp or #relaxingnottaxing or something else clever and short.
If you don't have many fans, you'll need to gain more followers by sharing relevant content from your industry, interacting with people and finding relevant users to follow.
Here's an example of a brand that did this well: Lululemon with their #justmymat campaign. It began with a woman doing yoga in different settings in an Instagram brand video. As a result, thousands of followers uploaded photos and videos of themselves practicing yoga all over the world while using the campaign hashtag.
Tip #3: Show, Don't Tell
Telling your brand story doesn't have to mean typing out a whole bunch of copy. Images and videos can be a great way to capture the essence of your branding. Some platforms center around images (Pinterest and Instagram, for example).
Even the ones that don't have made changes to make social media storytelling easier, with more opportunities for photos, videos, and albums.
If you're not sure where to get images, do some research on design apps and sites that let you use your own images or templates and backgrounds to create engaging posts for the various social platforms.
There are so many ways you can tell a story that will best reflect your brand, business and you! You don't need to tackle the world of Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn and Twitter on your own.
