How To Be Successful In Content Marketing As a Modern Content Creator

Get OFF Your Horse
First, let me ask you something, would you ride your horse into a new town-with your products, CDs, your art, your books, blog posts, or programs stuffed into the backpack strapped to your shoulders-and solicit your content door to door?
No. You wouldn't...
It would be random, borderline inappropriate, and the 1 or 2% of people that might purchase your content-wares would likely do it out of sympathy.
Even though many of us are inadvertently executing a similar strategy, there IS good news.
Just because your content marketing campaigns have failed to convert-doesn't mean you have a bad product, a poor service, or a curse from the universe!
It most likely means that your marketing funnel has failed to forge the connection and relationship needed to make the sale, even if the product or service is impressive and valuable enough to your prospect to consider purchasing your solution.
Regardless of what your selling, in the modern world, the "know, like, and trust" factor is more relevant than ever.
Just because you've got a product or service nestled away on a 3rd tier page covered in mediocre copy and checkout button, doesn't mean you have functional marketing and sales funnel.
This is where the Content Marketing Process comes in to lend a helping hand and play its part in taking your audience from interested prospects to loyal customers.
Content Marketing is how brands build an audience in the modern world. It is a CORE skill for Modern Content Creators, and if you are selling the content of any type or format, your content strategy and your content marketing better be solid if you want to compete in 2013 and beyond.
Understand that content marketing may sound like a new or faddish term. A trendy wave here today is gone tomorrow...
Although it's a buzz word bandwagon as of late, it is NOT a new concept, but the Modern World has leveled the playing field by providing the access and resources to accomplish what wasn't even humanly possible up until just recently, and it's taken a little while for everyone to catch up to the "content as currency" concept.
However, there is a big difference between the successful approaches and those that are not.
Two Approaches
There are only two direct approaches to selling your content online. (art, products, services, coaching, knowledge, advice, etc)
1) Send cold traffic directly to an offer... The end.
2) Send targeted traffic to valuable content and build an engaged audience through adding more value and nurturing a relationship, and then at some point transform them into loyal customers.
Route two is the name of the game.
That is the role of content marketing.
The 3 Shortcuts To Successful Content Marketing
Rather than point out where everyone goes wrong, I'll instead outline the highest leverage solutions or the biggest shortcuts that you can integrate into your projects, campaigns, and processes to make your efforts more successful.
1) Mindset- The first shortcut is to approach marketing your content with the right mindset.
The mentality you need to embrace is that of the Modern Content Creator, and all that inherently implies.
A. You are an Artist/Creator AND an Entrepreneur. You do the meaningful work, aligned with your purpose, and serves your loyal audience.
B. Everything from your mission and purpose, down to each project or campaign-begins with Clarity + Focus. This is always the starting point. Roles and responsibilities are defined so that you can clarify and focus on your highest value activities, and then maximize them with the highest leverage.
C. You are story-teller AND you are a publisher. As a Modern Content Creator, you are both the expert/journalist, AND you are the publisher of the magazine.
D. Content marketing is best thought of as a process. An ongoing conversation with your audience based on the creation and delivery of content that adds value to their lives.
E. Think simple yet sophisticated. He who can control and discipline his attention will find an audience that gives them theirs.
F. The tools are only as effective as your ability to use them. I think we can sort of take for granted sometimes just how awesome the power we have at our fingertips actually is...
I often hear a lot of talk about what the next NEW "thing" is going to be...
Some super technology or social network that instantly takes the world by storm.
While continuous advancements in science and technology and the cure for cancer are all exciting, spending time thinking about flying cars is a fruitless exercise.
It's not MORE technology we need, it's the need to use the tools we have BETTER.
Think in terms of mastery.
2) Message to Market Match
Content is relative, and being relevant is increasingly more difficult across our very noisy digital channels.
With the right mindset, your message to market match is the next most important thing you CAN'T get wrong.
Unfortunately, for some people, it will be easier to speak your audience's language than others. But the essence of what it means to be a Modern Content Creator is the evolved understanding of being both Creator/Artist, AND Entrepreneur.
This means that you are making, creating, providing things that are meaningful to you, but also valuable to others! A lot of the further leaning creative types I work with have to be reminded of the fact that there are an entire skillset and suite of entrepreneurial responsibilities that must be integrated and well managed if you want to find that beautiful balance of endless freedom and fulfillment doing what you love.
... You need to love what you do, and you ALSO need an audience who loves what you do for them!
The inherent CREATIVE faculties for Artist/Expert and Personal Brands can and should most DEFINITELY be applied in finding this balance, but understand that an "if you build it they will come attitude is dangerous."
Gotta provide value. Real value. Gotta know what that value is. This all requires understanding the most essential aspects of marketing, which is really just effective communication to a defined target audience or persona.
This phrase and every imaginable permutation are littered across the web. Perhaps because it is so very basic, and so often mentioned that many of us simply gloss over the inherent implications to making that statement actionable and quantified.
You've got to be thoroughly researched and involved in your market place. Period. You need to know who's who at the greatest level of depth to manage that tricky balance of listening to what your audience is saying, and understanding where you can add to the party, in a meaningful and well-positioned way.
  • You need to know the positioning of those already active in your space so you can define YOUR Unique Value Positioning.
It's a balance, and it's the key to finding your voice, whether that's as an authority, or as a reporter or enthusiast...
If you haven't done in-depth market research, if you don't know the top blogs, games, forums, brands, gaps, in your market; then it's going to be MUCH harder to carve your own space effectively.
Blind stabs in the dark can sometimes pan out if you avoid the sharks, know the right people, and want to leave your career up to luck. I know that expert trainers/product creators who would consider themselves savvy to this and unconsciously point their nose up at those "ignorant artist/musician types," while they don't even really understand their market at the level I'm talking about.
You do NOT need to go this deep with your market to be successful. No. But when you do, there are literally MANY options and routes you could pursue because at that point you can see all the gaps, you KNOW the market and who's in it.
Now, if you're already an expert, as are most of my clients, then it's more a matter of dialing into the conversations and writing about the most valuable issues, concerns, solutions, that exist within your community.
It's not just about your own ideas, or simply writing about what you feel like writing about... Ideally, you'd bridge both so you are writing something meaningful for you, but that is first and foremost speaking to the persona you are intending to reach, and does so in a relevant and engaging way...
That sounds like such generic advice, but it's the name of the game. As Brian Clark from Copyblogger illustrated very elegantly in a recent interview I heard, it's more about listening to your audience, than talking at them.
3) Integrated Content Strategy: - Build an Intelligent Marketing Funnel
Just about every single one of my clients, upon initial intake, come to me with the following:
They've put up their information product, art, book, program, CD or service on an inner tier page (2-3-4) with some decent though mostly generic copy and pictures.
Their web traffic is marginal, not tracked, and has a strategy that's typically very leaky-if effectively defined or designed at all.
Now, I hope none of them take offense to this; I'm not saying it to rag on them, but to better illustrate my point for you. (they're going to be all JUST fine;)
But this is NOT an effective marketing funnel.
However, after answering the basic yet vital questions for determining what to say and who to say it to, identifying the best communication formats, selecting the right distribution channels, it's just test, measure, and refine...
I think it can be difficult to think in terms of a marketing sequence for many, and it takes a substantial amount of effort and energy for me to draw the sequences out in my head, transfer it onto paper and then implement it.
But the missing link for the majority that I can see is a lack of integrated strategy for thinking through and mapping out your marketing funnel and crafting the best, most effective USER experience you can.
This kind of visitor comes from this place, is taken to this place, then reads through this page, etc. etc.
As I mentioned earlier, but find it worth repeating; think simple yet sophisticated.
He who can control and discipline his attention will find an audience that gives them theirs.

How to Gain Instagram Followers Organically 2019 (Grow from 0 to 5000 followers FAST!)

The Five Rules of a Successful Content Strategy

Whether you are brainstorming and implementing your own content strategy, or working with the help of a third party, here are five of the most important rules of a successful content strategy.

Rule 1: Be clear
One of the main reasons that a strategy is ultimately unsuccessful is because its original aim is not clear and concise enough for its purpose. Having clear-cut objectives makes it far easier to set goals that ultimately help you achieve your aims, while also being easier to benchmark your progress and success.
Being inarticulate is a cardinal sin when it comes to content strategy, so ensuring that whoever is managing or leading the project has adept communication skills should be a prerequisite.
Rule 2: What is the message?
When devising a new content strategy, another important rule, even if you are enlisting the help of an expert company to assist, is to know exactly what the message to your audience is intended to be. This will depend on the target audience that you are trying to attract, and partly on the demographics of your current clientele.
Rule 3: Define the audience
Going hand in hand with developing the message that you intend to send is defining your target audience. It may be that you have an existing demographic of usual customers, but you are hoping to launch a new campaign in order to attract a different type of crowd, for example, younger, or older.
Depending on whom you are marketing to, this will change your strategy entirely, and can often be the difference between a successful campaign and an unsuccessful one. The more detailed and in-depth that you can define your intended audience, the easier it will be to work out how your content strategy can fit in with achieving your goals.
Rule 4: Accessible content
You can do the best planning available, but if your content is not easily accessible it could all be for nothing.
Part of your content strategy should be ensuring that your content can be found by your target audience with relative ease. One way of orchestrating this is to identify a number of different keywords and phrases that you wish to target, and writing content that fits in with these parameters.
Rule 5: Measurable goals
The last of the five rules for content strategy is to ensure that your plan is measurable, as without this you have no way of knowing if your plan is a success or not. This also loops back to our first rule, as if you have made a clear and concise strategy with easily identifiable goals, then it should be simple to measure your success against these.
Without measurable goals, it also makes it extremely difficult to justify to your organization or business that the work you are doing is worthwhile, as content marketing and content strategy can often be under-appreciated by those, not in the know.
Following these five rules will put you in great shape for developing an effective content strategy.

How To Make A Content Marketing Strategy That Works

As a website owner, unique content creation and content sharing on social media networks is an important aspect of making your services effectively speak to your audience and to grow traffic to your website.
A content marketing strategy involves many steps through which the awesome content is drafted and shared on various social media and other platforms that clever enough to its most relevant audience so as to increase sales.
1. Begin with an understanding of the right content with the right keywords and its importance to your business
Whether you are an owner of a service website or an eCommerce store, the content has a lot to do with your business growth. One has to create content in many forms (including rich texts and graphics).
Content is like a bridge that can connect your audience to what you sell or what services you provide.
Content that is written uniquely, effectively, and professionally can definitely work. At the same time, the content must also consider a reader's intent.
2. Recognize intent
Before the content is made, you must identify who you are writing for and why. Knowing what online users are searching for and why they are searching for it will help you understand the type of content to make.
How do you recognize it?
Research terms your users are searching for
Study the online search patterns of your audience. Use an analytics tool to track a user's online movements and their buying behaviors.
Make a list of useful keywords as well as search phrases that are highly searched for to strategize content creation.
Create content based on researched keywords
Produce content for both on-page and off-page sources. Start making content based on a user's search queries.
Build valuable blogs and articles to satisfy the hunger of your visitors.
What to look for when creating trendy content:
To make content that is fresh and user-friendly, walk with the existing trends.
Supply your users with the necessary information and details. Write unique content and enhance its density with everything that your visitors can think of seeing (images, videos, infographics, etc.).
3. Identify users' emotions
To get a good flow of traffic and conversions, it's always ideal to go as close to the reader's feelings as possible. Write content that offers solutions to their questions to a user's various pain factors.
Make sure these solutions are genuine and practical and must give them relief by reading your article. Construct content on topics that can justify a reader's enthusiasm, love, anger, likes, and all of the other human traits.
It will increase their willingness to get into your content and obtain your services.
4. Feed readers with amazing content and keep it regular
A flow of content creation and sharing should never go stagnant.
Your content that keeps triggering a reader's willingness to regularly get involved needs to continually be updated.
Identify every market move and nurture your users with the latest knowledge.
5. Content is not only about informing, but also selling
Writing good quality content is a must, and so is selling your services to your users.
Present your services to users not too quickly and not too slowly.
Online visitors need to be satisfied with your solutions before they'll trust you enough to buy something from you. But if your pitch comes too late, they may have already purchased another resource.
Start presenting them with your selling techniques after you feel adequate content has been distributed.
6. Provide content to the right audience
Content sharing is as significant as content creation.
You have to take your content out of the box and carry it to specific readers. To do so, you have to identify the right online platforms where you can bring it.
Again, knowing popular content trends will also help you create and publish the most valuable content for your audience.
7. Understand visual content
Content created with both meaningful text and nice graphics will attract more viewers. Keep making relevant images and posting them with the content you display.
Such visuals are more engaging, gradually turning users into your loyal readers. It can also increase the traffic-to-conversion rates, thus improving ROIs.
8. Plan an effective link building strategy
A quality link pointing to your website can increase the probability of getting ranked higher on major search engines.
Share your expertise with other industry experts. There are many online platforms where people gather to share their opinions and get solutions in return. Take your valuable content over there and let it talk to your readers.
The more powerful you make your link (and your content), the more chances it has to get clicked (and loved) by visitors.
Conclusion
Content, or saying the right information, that you give your users will vary over time. As a user's behavior changes, the market changes too.
Identify a user's intent and keep feeding them with exactly what they love to see. Keep it at regular intervals and you will be able to maintain a user's interest for years to come.
What are your content marketing strategies? Share them below in the comments.

How to Create Consistent Content for Instagram 2019 (Create ONE MONTH of content in ONE DAY!)

Making the Best Use of Content Curation

You have been reading about content curation on and off and you may have a sense of how it works and why it is important. Of course, that doesn't mean that you should abandon original content. Curated content should complement your original content and if you do it right, it will strengthen your brand.
Using content curation appropriately
As a business owner, you undoubtedly understand the importance and relevance of writing original content. However, you must also be aware that it is not always so easy to produce top-quality content that you write from scratch on a frequent, regular basis several times a week (if that is the schedule to which you are committed).
As a writer, you must understand that you can't simply snap your fingers and produce amazing original content. So, what do you do if you are struggling to come up with amazing original content? The reality is that whether you are struggling to come up with content or not, you still need to produce it. That is where using curated content comes into play. If you choose to use a combination of original and curated content, you can increase your output tremendously. However, it is very important to remember that whenever you use curated content, you must not only give attribution for that content but you must also add your own thoughts to the content at the end.
The line between appropriately using curated content and stealing it
Of course, it must have occurred to you at this point (already) that you must maintain a high standard of ethics when it comes to content curation. As long as you give the proper credit to the person who wrote the content that you are curating. You can take the parts of the content that you wish to curate and put a unique spin on it. You can also take the article in its entirety and offer commentary at the end. In some way, you need to insert your own thoughts into the concept of what you are presenting. There are certain rules that you should follow in order to ensure that your curated content was obtained in a proper manner.
  • Mix up your sources: If you decide to practice content curation, it is important to make sure that you use information from a variety of sources. That is important for many reasons, including the fact that your content will always be interesting and fresh if you present a number of different sources.

  • Write original titles for all of the content that you curate: It is acceptable to use content that other people have written but it is most appropriate for you to create your own title for what you are sharing considering that the content that you are presenting is a hybrid of the curated content and your commentary on that content. When you are writing the title of the article, make sure that you really do it well. You only have three seconds in which to capture the attention of your reader with the title.

  • Choose the best possible content: When it comes to the content that you are sharing, you should set the bar extremely high. Of course, that would also apply to the standards that apply to your original content. If you don't make it compelling, nobody will want to read it. That is definitely the last thing that you need or want.

  • Wrap your mind around the content that you are curating: It is critical that you have a good understanding of the content that you are presenting. The chances are great that if you don't understand it, your readers will not understand it either. It is important to remember that you are using that content to build relationships with your readers and if you don't understand that content that you are sharing, you will not have the opportunity to build those relationships.

  • Be mindful of the time factor: When it comes to using curated content, it is important to be sensitive to the timing. Even if the content doesn't discuss a specific event or occasion, you should use it sooner rather than later.
Conclusion
It is important that you understand that there is absolutely nothing wrong with taking advantage of curated content, as long as you do it appropriately and ethically. By using curated content, you are opening up a world for your readers and giving them the advantage of new and interesting ideas to think about and to discuss. If you are unsure about how to appropriate curate content, you may wish to take a look at how other people do it. It will most likely give you some really helpful ideas about how to do it yourself.

25 Top Places to Publish Your Content and Market Your Business

Still only publishing your content in a single place? If so, you're missing out on a huge amount of exposure, visibility and results you could otherwise be achieving.
To give your content the greatest chance of success, you need to publish it as widely as possible across a whole network of different content sites.
This involves repurposing content - in other words, creating new versions of the original content - to suit the specific platform you're publishing on.
For example, let's imagine your content is currently in the form of a blog post. Here are some examples of how you might repurpose it:
- Into an article such as this. Often they will be quite a bit shorter than the original post. Depending on the site it's published on, it may not use the same amount of visual imagery.
- Into a presentation for publication onto say SlideShare.
- Into a video for YouTube. If you've already created a presentation, the easiest way is to use that as the basis of a video.
- Into multiple Tweets spread out over time, taking some of the key takeaways from the post.
- Similarly into one or more updates for other social networks.
I've mentioned a couple of key sites already where you can publish your content. There are of course many others.
Here's a full listing of 25 such publishing platforms and content websites, starting with...
1. Your Blog
Your own blog should be central to your whole content marketing strategy. Through regularly publishing high-quality content, you build credibility, authority, and traffic.
Plus each post forms the basis for quality repurposed content you can then publish elsewhere.
Thanks to built-in audiences, these other sites can attract much higher engagement levels. This can also lead to your content spreading virally and reaching thousands you wouldn't otherwise reach.
2. Twitter
As already mentioned, multiple Tweets can be scheduled to go out over time, using different key points from the content you publish elsewhere.
3. Facebook
Each time you publish a new post - or publish content to some of the other sites listed here - schedule one or more updates for Facebook. Use an image such as your post's Featured Image to boost engagement levels and click-through.
4. LinkedIn
Similar to Facebook, one or more updates can be scheduled out over time, linking back to the original content. You'd generally do this through your Company Page.
5. Pinterest
If you're using a Featured Image whenever you publish to your blog, you can easily re-use it as the basis of a post on Pinterest, linking back to your blog. You can also post videos and SlideShares directly to Pinterest.
6. Google+
Google+ can be good for micro-blogging, where you create a longer synopsis of your content than you might do on say Facebook. Or even a series of posts based on the original content.
Publish content to your personal profile, your business page, and to different communities, you are a member of in order to widen your reach.
7. Instagram
Instagram is gaining popularity with marketers, as it can have much higher engagement levels than Facebook. Try reposting your blog post's Featured Image or perhaps infographics you can post here as well as say Pinterest.
8. Medium
The medium was created by a couple founders of Twitter, and designed to use all the best bits of the other social networks. As such, it can be a powerful place to publish your content.
9. Tumblr
A microblogging and social networking site, Tumblr is one of the top 10 most popular sites in the United States.
Posts will generally need to be visually-appealing to get good results. Experiment with say publishing an excerpt from your blog post with some images, and then linking back to your blog for the full post.
10. SlideShare
One of the top 200 websites in the world, and can give you a lot of exposure quickly. Simply create a presentation based on a blog post, and upload it to the site.
As already mentioned, the presentation can also be used as the basis of a video for publication on...
11. YouTube
YouTube is the second largest search engine just behind Google, though most marketers focus mostly on Google.
By regularly repurposing content like videos, you can build up your presence here and take advantage of all the additional traffic and exposure it can give you.
12. Vimeo
Another site you can upload your video to for additional visibility.
13. LinkedIn Pulse
Because it taps into LinkedIn's network, good content is readily shared and can easily reach thousands within just a few days who you wouldn't otherwise be in front of.
14. Google Images
You can't submit images here directly, but by using images within your blog content, for example, it can still deliver some additional traffic for you.
Here are some tips, which also help your SEO in general:
- Reference your domain name within your blog post's Featured Image.
- Be liberal in your use of images within blog posts, while ensuring they add additional value to the visitor.
- Use keywords in the names of your images.
15. Your Email List
All your content gives you ample material with which to stay in touch with your email list and keep your business front of mind. Re-use your content within a regular ezine, linking to the relevant content and driving up your engagement stats.
16. Other Ezines
Find ezines in your niche that readily publish content from contributors. Often you'll find such content is added to a related website too. For example, I've been regularly published in ezines going out to hundreds of thousands of subscribers.
17. Guest Post on Other Blogs
Contact relevant blogs in your niche to see if they accept guest posts - many blogs do. This can give you valuable additional exposure.
Rather than create content from scratch, save time by creating a new, unique version of a post that's already on your blog.
18. Printed Publications
Don't forget offline opportunities to publish your content. Think about businesses that offer printed newsletters, magazines, newspapers, and so on.
19. Forums
Relevant forums can be a great place to publish your information. You're not trying to sell anything, just attract people to you through your information.
Be sure to check out the forum's rules and simply aim to add value. Contribute regularly for example by reusing some of the content you've created before. Link back to posts or other content where it's relevant and helpful to do so.
20. Amazon
Think about repurposing blog posts as say content for the Kindle. For example, you can periodically create eBooks based on a collection of posts you've already published.
21. iTunes - Podcasts...
Content already on your blog can easily be repurposed into podcast content. Use a regular podcast to reach and grow an engaged and loyal audience who might not otherwise come into contact with you.
22. Reddit
Post content to subreddits related to your niche. You'll find subreddits have their own rules, so make sure you abide by them, but good content can end up reaching thousands in this way.
23. Quora
Search for questions and topics on Quora on which you have created content. Post answers in which you deliver a lot of value within Quora itself, but then link back to your content elsewhere for further information.
Answer other questions without any links to give some balance, while also helping to build your profile and attract followers.
24. Yahoo! Answers
Similar to Quora in some ways, but a less sophisticated user base. Approach in a similar way to Quora by fully answering questions and linking back to other content for further information.
However, you do first have to spend some time on the site getting involved. You can only add links once you are at Level 2 or above.
25. Google Web Search
Of course, your content is 'published' on Google Web Search, similar to other sites. You don't control your ranking, and therefore how visible you are, but you can heavily influence it.
For example:
- Focus on creating value for the visitor. The more value you create, the more visibility you'll be rewarded with on Google.
- Publish content on other sites around the web, such as those here. That increases your exposure, leading to more links to your content and higher overall authority.
- Focus on building your social networks. This can again encourage links to your content. Plus more views for content such as videos and presentations can give them higher search rankings.
Finally...
Try republishing content to just a handful of your preferred sites from the list above. By doing it regularly, you'll see your results really start to build.
Does it work? You're reading this, aren't you?

The Five Rules of a Successful Content Strategy

Whether you are brainstorming and implementing your own content strategy, or working with the help of a third party, here are five of the most important rules of a successful content strategy.

Rule 1: Be clear
One of the main reasons that a strategy is ultimately unsuccessful is because its original aim is not clear and concise enough for its purpose.
